A Frigidaire Affinity clothes washer has a control panel display screen that helps you operate the washer. The control panel display simplifies setting an Affinity washer, which has a lot of wash options. The screen also displays an error code if something goes wrong with the Affinity washer. A repair technician will know what the codes mean, but that does not mean you should not know what each error code means.
- Check the letter in front of the error code. All Affinity error codes start with “E,” “EF” or “EB.”
- Identify the number code following the letter. “EB1,” “EB2” and “EB3” signify voltage problems. “EF1” is a clogged drain. “EF2” means too much soap. “EBE” and “EBF” are console control problems. “EF5” means the hot water temperature is too high. All the others start with “E” and signify communication problems between the various parts of the washer, console control errors and, occasionally, failures within the machine.
- Resolve the error. This could be replacing the control board, rewiring, or replacing a part on the washer. It is always best to consult or hire a professional when you want to repair an appliance.

If your Frigidaire Gallery top load washer fails to drain after the spin cycle, but you hear the pump working, it’s a sign that the drain hose is clogged. In some cases, you may be able to fish the obstruction out from the discharge end; however, if that fails, you must remove the hose and try to clear it from the other end – and after partially dismantling the machine, the quickest and easiest way to solve the problem may be to replace the clogged hose with a fairly inexpensive new one.
1
Unplug the washer and slide it away from the wall. Inspect the drain hose; if it is kinked, straighten it, restore power and run a spin cycle to see if this solves the problem.
2
Shine a flashlight down the discharge end of the hose. If you see an obstacle, such as a sock or wad of compacted lint, try to fish it out with a hooked piece of stiff wire. If that fails, you'll have to remove the hose to either clean or replace it.
3
Turn off the hot and cold water supply faucets and use tongue-and-groove pliers to undo the two hose couplings from the back of the washer.
4
Secure the washer lid by sticking two strips of tape over the left and right front edge of the lid and the top panel.
5
Insert a putty knife into the seam between the top and the front panels of the washer cabinet, about 2 inches in from each corner. Disengage both spring clips securing the top by pushing the putty knife in while lifting the front edge of the cabinet top.
6
Rotate the top up and back and prevent it from falling backward by tying a piece of strong cord or chain between the holes near the front corner and the side edge of the top panel.
7
Remove the two screws securing the bottom edge of the front panel to the washer frame with a Phillips screwdriver. Push the panel down to free it from two upward-facing mounting hooks on each side, and remove the panel.
8
Locate the drain pump mounted inside on the lower left of the opening, and identify the black ribbed drain hose attached to the discharge port on the back of the pump. Place an absorbent rag under the pump to catch any spilled water. Squeeze the tabs on the hose clamp together with a pair of pliers and slide the clamp and drain hose off the pump discharge port.
9
Lift the end of the plastic retaining ring over the hose to free it from the base of the cabinet. Use the pliers to squeeze together the ends of the plastic retaining clip on the inside of the rear panel. Push the clip through the panel to free the outside hose retaining ring.
10
Go to the back of the unit, remove the retaining ring from the hose, and slide the round plastic splash guard off the end of the hose. Push the rest of the hose through the opening in the rear panel of the cabinet.
11
Transfer the pump hose clamp from the old hose to the new hose. Slide the discharge end of the new hose through the opening in the rear panel from the inside. Go to the back of the unit. Hook the previously removed retaining ring over the hose, push the retaining clip on the end of the retaining ring into its hole and press inward until you feel it snap into place. Slide the round plastic splash guard over the end of the hose and position it about 2 inches from the start of the ribbed section.
12
Reach inside the front opening and push the end of the hose over the pump discharge port. Compress the tabs on the hose clamp together with the pliers, slide it into place over the pump discharge port, release the pliers and lift the end of the plastic retaining ring over the hose. remove the rag from under the pump.
13
Reposition the front panel. Align the upward-facing mounting hooks with the slots on the side panels, push the front panel in and lift it up until the mounting hooks are in place. Replace the two Phillips-head screws removed earlier to secure the base of the front panel to the washer frame.
14
Remove the cord supporting the top, lower the top panel back into place, and press firmly down on the front corners until the spring clips snap into place. Remove the tape holding the lid into place.
15
Reconnect the water supply hoses, and slide the washer back against the wall. Insert the end of the drain hose into the standpipe of the washer drain so that 3 or 4 inches of hose is inside the drain pipe. Plug in the power cord and test the machine for proper drainage.
